About Us
We are a New England company that uses an artisan's approach in creating finely crafted table and floor lamps. As owners, we continue a design partnership that began 20 years ago while students at Rhode Island School of Design. After graduating, we produced a distinctive and innovative ceramic tableware line, Butter+Toast, that was sold throughout the US and abroad. It was that experience of fusing expressive design, utility, and craftsmanship into everyday objects that led us to develop Altamira Lighting in 1993.
In our studio, we work with our staff of artists to combine handcast elements in ceramic, resin, and metal into lamp stems. The shades are then meticulously painted by hand with rich detail. While most of our lighting finds its place in residential settings, we have also produced pieces for hotels and restaurants. In any setting, these lamps continue to enhance traditional and contemporary interiors with color and light.
